
SPENCER, N.C. — A child was airlifted to the hospital Monday afternoon after being struck by a van while riding a motorized scooter in Spencer.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Second Street. Police said the juvenile was traveling along the roadway on a motorized scooter when they collided with the side of a cargo van.
Emergency crews treated the child at the scene before arranging for an airlift from the nearby North Rowan Elementary School. The juvenile was flown to a regional trauma center with serious injuries to one leg.
Part of Second Street was temporarily closed while police and emergency responders cleared the area. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
