NCDMV Expands Road Test Options for Teen Drivers | Reduce Wait Times

RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) has announced a new program to improve access to road tests for teenage drivers.

Certified private driver education schools across the state are now authorized to administer road tests for teens seeking a Level 2 Limited Provisional License. This option is available to drivers who already hold a Level 1 Limited Learner Permit.

The initiative is designed to reduce wait times at NCDMV driver license offices and provide greater scheduling flexibility for families. Teens may still choose to take their road test at an NCDMV office if they prefer.

Once a road test is passed at a certified school, students will only need to visit an NCDMV location to purchase and receive their provisional license.

The cost of the test will vary depending on the private school, as each institution sets its own fees.

A full list of certified schools authorized to give road tests can be found on the official NCDMV website.
