
Lexington, NC - September 30, 2025 - On Monday, September 23, 2024, Nancy Bunly, age 31, of Druid Hills Drive in Lexington, was reported missing by her family. Bunly was reportedly last seen at her residence on the prior evening of Sunday, September 22nd.
LPD Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators immediately began an investigation into her disappearance. During this investigation detectives discovered that Nancy was last seen by her live-in boyfriend Ricky Lam. Nancy and Ricky also had a newborn baby who lived in the home with them. Detectives quickly began developing evidence and reason to believe that Nancy may have been harmed.
As the investigation continued, detectives partnered with numerous other local, state, and federal agencies as well as non-law enforcement resources. Detectives have also worked closely with the Davidson County District Attorney's Office for the duration of this investigation. LPD Detectives, and investigating partners, have exhaustively conducted ground, aerial, and water searches around numerous places across Lexington and the Piedmont Triad.
These investigators have also spent countless hours conducting interviews and processing physical and digital evidence in attempts to determine what led to Nancy's disappearance.
On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, three arrests were made by LPD detectives that were directly related to the investigation into Nancy's disappearance. These arrests were of family members of Ricky Lam. Van Ly Lam, age 5l, of Greensboro was charged with three felony counts of obstruction of justice. Viencham Lam, age 49, of Salisbury was charged with five counts of felony obstruction of justice. Jonathan Lam, age 30, of Salisbury was charged with two counts of felony obstruction of justice.
Despite these initial criminal charges of family members, investigators continued to tirelessly work this investigation with the goal being to hold anyone involved in the disappearance of Nancy accountable, and to help bring some semblance of closure to her family and loved ones.
Today, we have made additional arrests related to further developments that indicates that Nancy was murdered by Ricky Lam. Monday, of this week, a Davidson County Grand Jury granted true bills of indictment on Ricky Lam, Van Lam, Viencham Lam, and Jonathan Lam for their involvements in Nancy's murder. Ricky Lam is currently in custody in Guilford County and is being charged with first degree murder and concealment of a body. Van Lam was arrested today in Archdale and is charged with felony accessory after the fact to first degree murder and concealment of a body. Viencham Lam was arrested today in Rowan County and charged with felony accessory after the fact to first degree murder and concealment of a body.
Jonathan Lam was arrested today in Lexington and charged with felony conspiracy after the fact to first degree murder and concealment of a body. All are currently being processed and will be held in the Davidson County Jail under one million dollar secured bonds.
Simultaneously, as these arrests were made, Lexington Police Department Detectives, with the assistance of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at 415 Shore Acres Road in Salisbury. This search warrant investigation is still ongoing at the time of this release.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office also assisted at this scene.
This case remains a very active investigation, and detectives are continuing to search for more answers to the many unanswered questions.
